RSVP Volunteer Spotlight Martha Turpin How do you volunteer as a Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) participant? I started volunteering with Serve Wenatchee, but wanted more opportunities to keep busy and be with people. When I met with staff at RSVP, I soon discovered there are many volunteer opportunities in our valley. I have been a volunteer with RSVP for over 16 years and have collected nearly 11,000 service hours! What are your volunteer activities and what do they involve? Through my partnership with RSVP, I have volunteered with Wenatchee Adult Respite Program and Okanogan County Transportation & Nutrition. I have also volunteered with food collection and distribution programs such as Green Bags, Small Miracles, and Packing Friendship. Why do you volunteer with RSVP? I primarily volunteer to fight off loneliness, but also desire to be active and engaged in our community. Since starting volunteering 16 years ago, I have learned so much about those affected by food insecurity, especially through my experiences with Eastmont, Orondo, and Waterville School Districts. What message would you like to share? Always try to help others and give back to those in need.
